USA, Japan, Argentina, Iran stay unbeaten in Boys’ U19 World Championship

 

Japan are one of the four undefeated teams in the 2017 FIVB Volleyball Boys' U19 World Championship

Riffa, Bahrain, August 21, 2017 – USA, Japan, Argentina and Iran stayed undefeated after their superb victories on the fourth day of the 2017 FIVB Volleyball Boys’ U19 World Championship at the Isa City Sports Hall on Monday.

USA and Bahrain prevailed in their five-set encounters in Pool A. The NORCECA side preserved their unbeaten record, after their 3-2 (28-30, 22-25, 25-19, 26-24, 15-9) win against Tunisia; then Bahrain logged their second victory, following their 3-2 (23-25, 25-7, 25-10, 24-26, 15-10) triumph over Puerto Rico.





Japan picked up their third victory after their 3-1 (25-19, 25-23, 21-25, 25-20) defeat of Poland, who have struggled with turnovers in their last three matches in Pool B. Brazil earned their second win as they utlilised their great defence against Cuba 3-1 (25-19, 20-25, 25-22, 25-19) in the other Pool B match-up.





Argentina grabbed solo leadership in Pool C with three victories after their heroic comeback in the fifth set against Korea. The Argentines fought hard to tie the score at 13all then raced against the gutsy Korean side to win 3-2 (7-25, 20-25, 25-22, 25-21, 18-16). In the next pool match, Russia recovered from their loss and improved their win-record to 2-1, beating winless Chile 3-0 (25-17, 25-11, 25-15).





Iran made short work of their Asian rivals China 3-0 (25-23, 25-18, 25-21) to lead all Pool D contenders with three victories. After their tough loss to Iran on Saturday, Italy used their rest day to prepare for their next match. The Italians got back on the winning track and claim second place in the group after they posted an easy straight-set (25-15, 25-19, 25-17) win over Mexico.
