Elsafy’s 32 points were built on 28 attacks and four blocks that lifted Egypt in their great comeback. Cuban Lazaro Yoelvis Brunet Llanes also made 32 points, but the team’s 34 errors figured in their loss.

Elsafy commanded Egypt to a first set win, while Brunet dominated on offence for Cuba in the second frame. Brunet still led Cuba on the attack to make it two set-wins in a row. Egypt bounced back and forced a tie-breaker, then carried their momentum to the next set as they started a 4-0 run. Cuba committed some costly attack turnovers that gave away set and match to the African side.
