Cuba earned their first victory over Poland, after they suffered two straight losses in the 2017 FIVB Volleyball Boys' U19 World Championship
Riffa, Bahrain, August 20, 2017 – Cuba finally got the winning break on the third day of competition in the 2017 FIVB Volleyball Boys’ U19 World Championship, following their hard-earned five-set win over defending champions Poland at the Isa City Sports Hall on Sunday.

The Cubans recorded a 3-2 (21-25, 25-22, 25-9, 21-25, 15-10) win, as Poland struggled to overcome their errors. Japan and France featured in another five-set encounter, where the Asian side prevailed 3-2 (24-26, 27-25, 23-25, 25-20, 15-13) to record a 2-0 win-record.
Meanwhile, Pool A featured matches of continental rivals USA and Puerto Rico and Egypt and Tunisia. USA beat Puerto Rico 3-1 (25-21, 25-18, 23-25, 25-22) for their second win in the tournament, while Egypt defeated Tunisia 3-1 (26-24, 22-25, 30-28, 32-30) to improve their record to 2-1.
Egyptian hitter Youssef Hamdy Awad had a massive game against Tunisia as he scored 34 points – the highest point-output by any player in the competition so far.
In Pool C, Argentina claimed their second win at the expense of Chile 3-0 (25-23, 25-13, 25-22). In the other match, Korea bounced back from their first-set loss to win 3-1 (26-28, 25-20, 25-21, 27-25) to keep a clean win-record.
The Iranians took an easy win against a winless Mexicans in Pool D. The Asian powerhouse posted a 3-0 (25-19, 25-12, 25-18) victory to stay undefeated in the tournament. In the other Pool D match, Czech Republic won 3-1 (22-25, 25-16, 25-20, 25-22), as China could not sustain their great start. The Europeans grabbed their second win in the tournament.
