Bahrain’s Thamer tames Egypt in four sets

 

Bahrain's Husain Thamer scored 20 points from the attack line against Egypt in the 2017 FIVB Volleyball Boys' U19 World Championship

Riffa, Bahrain, August 18, 2017 – Husain Thamer scored 21 points to give Bahrain their opening match win against Egypt 3-1 (25-17, 25-20, 19-25, 25-20) in Pool A of the 2017 FIVB Volleyball Boys’ U19 World Championship at the Isa City Sports Hall on Friday.

Thamer gave a solid performance with 21 attacks and a block to lead all scorers, while Egypt’s Youssef Hamdy Awad made 13 points on a losing effort. Bahrain outplayed Egypt at the net with 44 attacks and 13 stuff blocks.

The hosts dominated in the first two sets as they utilised opposite Thamer to demolish the Egyptian block, while his team-mates imposed solid blocks on the Egyptian hitters. Egypt came up with a better attack strategy that gave them momentum in the third, but Bahrain became aggressive in the fourth to secure set and match.
