Schneidmiller: We knew this would be the most hyped game

USA knew that their encounter with Bahrain would be the most hyped match, but they followed their game plan that resulted to a 3-1 win

Riffa, Bahrain, August 19, 2017 – USA captain Joel Schneidmiller was aware that their match against Bahrain would be the most hyped game, but they managed to deliver with a 3-1 win in the 2017 FIVB Volleyball Boys’ U19 World Championship at the Isa City Sports Hall on Saturday.

USA captain Joel Schneidmiller: We were pretty nervous heading into this game, especially since we are playing the hosts. We knew there was going to be a big crowd, so it really helps a lot for us to come out and get this win. It helps us relax a little bit since we knew this would be the most hyped game. We can now be more composed.

USA coach Sam Shweisky: We prepared our players the best we could for this game. It took a while to get comfortable and react to such great energy from the crowd. Once we got more comfortable, we relaxed and did a really great job.

We have only been training together in the past two weeks. We started off with 23 guys, made a few cuts and then we’ve been training with this 12 only for less than a week. We are excited by the prospects of improving as we go.

Bahrain coach Yusuf Khalifa: We lost today but I am very proud of my players. USA are a very strong team. They are always among the best-ranked teams in the world at any level of volleyball. I am satisfied but the result was not for us. We now look forward to our next match against Puerto Rico. We will prepare hard for that match.

Bahrain captain Saif Yusuf:
I am very proud of the way we played against such a strong opponent. We played very well and we are very exhausted. We will work hard for the next match.
